I write a lot about the saving grace of Jesus and the impact that has on my life. If you’re not sure what that means, here it is in all its glory.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16
If you watch any sporting event, you know this verse. Thankfully, the message of this is not watered down by its popularity. God loves each and every one of us. Not a chosen few. ALL. The world. His desire is that each of us accept the gift of eternal life offered through the sacrifice made by Jesus.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ~ Romans 5:8
We don’t need to clean ourselves up to be saved. In fact nothing we do is ever enough to bridge the separation that sin puts between us and God. Only the death of Jesus Christ can bridge that divide.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ~Romans 3:23
We are born sinful. We have all sinned. All sin is equal in the eyes of God. And all sin separates us from God. We were created to be in relationship with God, but our sin keeps that from happening.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 6:23
Someone has to pay for our sin. We can pay with eternal separation from God, or we can accept the free gift of Jesus’ payment.
He who knew no sin became sin for us, that we may be made the righteousness of God through Him. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:21
So we are sinners separated from God. There is no bridge to God except the gift of Jesus’ payment for our sin. How do you receive this gift?
That if you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. ~ Romans 10:9-10
To believe is simply to take God at His word. We believe that Jesus is God’s Son who died for our sin
on the cross and arose from the grave to live in us as Savior and Lord.
- Do you acknowledge that your are a sinner?
- Do you believe by faith that Jesus, God’s Son, died for your sin on the cross?
- Will you now confess Him as your Savior and Lord?
For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. ~ Romans 10:13
All, any, whoever. You are invited to call on the name of Jesus and be saved. You can call on Him any time. You don’t have to clean up your life or try to be a good person. He loves us, accepts and saves us just the way we are. In all our brokenness and sin, He desires relationship with us.
People often call Christians hypocrites and that is true. We can never attain perfection and righteousness on our own. It’s the scandal that is the Gospel. We are all sinners. We are all separated. We are all invited to accept the free gift of salvation.
